So... starting a blog. As the name suggests, it will be mostly about music. Why read what I write? well, why not? it's not going to hurt you ... too busy? Oh really, doing what? I call bullshit on that excuse ...


Why a BLOG , in 2020 and the age of Youtube, Twitch and TikTok ? because as my dear old mum would say, 'you're got a face for the written page, you ugly git' 


Anyway... mostly music.. music I like ... so currently a lot of Dutch bands, but other than that its probably going to be British or American bands. Indie stuff. The usual ... you know, Wedding Present/Cinerama, Smiths/Morrissey, Built To Spill, Dinosaur Jr, Pixies, Pavement, Young Romance, Flowers, in my past there has been periods where my favorite band was Blur, James, White Stripes, REM, Madness ...


I like smaller gigs. Being at the front row. I love finding new bands, support bands.


I'm going to start this off with a Album of the Year 2020 ... then ... I don't know ... lets see

  ALBUM OF THE YEAR - SHORT-LIST .... ALBUM #13 - The 'wildcard' of  2020 I knew what I was getting into here. There were so many great albums coming out in the first six months of 2020, that the idea of 'an album a month' for the whole of 2020 seemed feasible.  ALBUM OF THE YEAR - SHORT-LIST .... ALBUM #5 - May 2020 This might be a short entry ...  I don't have a whole lot to write about this band ... I've never seen them live , although I have heard them faintly... they played the 'bar' stage at the annual Wedding Present Brighton August festival (ATEOTS) in 2018 ... its a nice bar but not really ideal for live music and I decided to stay at the front of the main stage after Salad so I could say hello to Young Romance. I have no regrets, but if this album had been released then, I think I would have pushed into the crowds and braved the squeeze to see Jetstream Pony. So I have some regrets, I guess... This photo is taken just a couple of hours after hearing them ... Me in my Pip Blom t-shirt, well before their first album was out (told you I was hip, didn't I?) I got this album, pre-ordered as a digital download from Bandcamp on a Bandcamp friday, and actually released to me to download a week before the announced releas...

 Canshaker Pi albums in a fight to the death... So a new format, if you like ... well, I like it ... so maybe I will call this blog  RE-EVALUATE THE SONG going forward....  Basically, having a readership so close to zero to need a telescope to distinguish it, i want to get something out of my time ... so I am motivated to rate albums... especially in examples where I have bought a lot of albums from one artist in a short timeframe (capturing up after discovering them) . I am rating an artists work against that same artists other work ... I'm not going to try to decide if I prefer Dinosaur Jr to Frank Black, but I am going to decide which of their albums I prefer ... I probably won't include albums less than a year old, because I think that might sway the results .... I started with Canshaker Pi, because I love them, there's only 4 albums, and I wanted to test the format. So , results, and then the scores for individual songs.
